A couple of weeks ago , just by chance, I watched Clint Eastwood’s recent movie “Gran Torino”. I had no idea of what the storyline was about…but everybody was talking about it…so hey…I was intrigued .

The movie blew my mind…
“Gran Torino” is the story of a racist, grumpy old man, Korean war veteran Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) who is brought by his destiny to meet the shy Asian young boy living next door with his family. Reluctantly, the old man soon becomes the boy’s mentor, not really his life coach…but more like a strict marine who never gives you a 2nd chance…

The boy soon starts changing and, day after day, gradually becomes more and more confident (fake it until you make it…). The old man a few of his friends in town and shows him how to communicate like a “real man“. And guess what…he also teaches him how to ask a girl out…It’s impressive to see how a 78 year old man has kept his charm and charisma intact.

The picture ends with the old man sacrificing his life for the boy and his relatives . These words sound to us old fashioned and belonging to the old ages, when men use to fight with swords and spears. These words sound to us old fashioned and belonging to the old ages, when men use to fight with swords. We moan about our society for not being fair and for not giving us enough opportunities.

Many of us have grown up hopefully surrounded by ” decent ” people and have been taught to be “nice” at all costs…to say I’m sorry hundreds of times a day and to look around us in order to make the “most appropriate” decision about our life. And if we are told to behave like a man, and have courage, most of us have no clue of what that means.

Many of us don’t know how it feels to deal with confrontation.
Well, I believe that confrontation is good, and that you must always be prepared to protect yourself and your loved ones. To stand for yourself and protect your territory.

To me, Mr Eastwood’s message is clear: “Be a man, learn how to deal with risk. Learn to always do the “right thing”.
