Wow, the day has arrived that your fiance has finally asked you for your hand in marriage.  Congratulations on a wonderful experience.
Now the reality is starting to set in.  You have to plan for the wedding.  Where to start?  Here is a checklist to help get you started:

  1. Decide on what type of wedding your are going to have – Formal or casual? On an overlook of a lake, a mountain setting, or possibly an exotic beach.
  2. Determine your budget -  Factors that will affect this decision are who will be contributing to your plans and of course your own finances.
  3. Have you insured your engagement ring yet? – While this might not sound romantic, a ring that has sentimental or a high material value should be insured.
  4. Set the wedding date and time – Finalize this date only after verifying availability of important guests, services, and the person you wish to marry you.
  5. Now is the time to start thinking about your wedding gown.
  6. Start scouting for ceremony and reception sites and services such as your caterers.
  7. Make a preliminary wedding guest list, making sure to consider both sets of parents.
  8. Choose your wedding party (bridesmaids and groomsmen) and ask them to participate.
  9. Have an engagement photo taken and place announcements in appropriate papers that family members will be able to read.

This checklist will hopefully get you thinking and planning for your wonderful day.  Take steps to plan well, and you will be able to take some of the stress out getting married.
