Three Things To Consider When Marrying Abroad
Posted by Relationship Expert on January 20, 2010
It sounds like a fairytale wedding doesnt it. Flying off with your loved one to somewhere hot and tying the knot on a sandy beach without a care in the world. Thousands of people get married in another country every year and most have a great time doing it. However, there are often factors that need to be taken into consideration when tying the knot in another country. Here are the three things that should be top of your organisational list.
Cost. Wedding are always going to be an expensive thing to do, but weddings abroad are often in a whole league of their own. Forgetting transportation for the moment, there are added costs for things such as accommodation for everyone and the provision of food for the duration of the trip. You may not be putting people up in a castle hotel, but costs still add up. If you haven’t got the money to have your wedding in another country, you should spend some time saving up first, rather than put it on credit cards. That way you you’re not worrying about money on your big day and you save yourself debts.
Family. This is probably the primary concern for most people when thinking about weddings in another country. Individuals are often left having to pay for their own travel costs as the wedding couple rarely have the money to pay for everyone. Depending on which county you choose that could be very costly, and some people may not be able to travel for medical reasons. As weddings are often all about the family, it makes sense to get them involved in the planning and help to decide were the best place to have it is.
Laws. People frequently forget that each country has its own set of laws and some can enforce them with little mercy, even if it is your wedding day. In your home country it might be fine to get married in bars, fields or castle wedding venues, but abroad you might find that the wedding is only legal if it takes place in a church or similar. Further more, it can sometimes be difficult to find the right person to conduct your wedding in the country of choice as they may have different religions to your own.
